Professor John Simpson
Professor John Simpson is Director of the Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) programme.
John is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Newcastle University, co-director of the NHR Newcastle Healthtech Research Centre, and an NIHR Senior Investigator. He was deputy chair of the MRC Clinical Training and Career Development Panel from 2020-2024.
His research group focuses on identifying why innate immunity fails during critical illness, with a view to developing treatments that restore effective immunity and prevent hospital-acquired infection.
