Professor Jonathan Mant

Professor Jonathan Mant is Co-Chair of NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research subcommittee A.

Jonathan is Professor of Primary Care Research and Head of the Primary Care Unit within the Department of Public Health & Primary Care in the University of Cambridge. He is an honorary consultant for Public Health England and for the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

He trained in medicine at Cambridge (1979-82) and Guy’s Hospital (1982-85), and completed an MSc in Community Medicine at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 1990. His MD thesis (Cambridge) was on family support for stroke. He trained in Public Health Medicine in the Oxford Region and was Clinical Lecturer in Public Health Medicine at the University of Oxford 1992-1997.

From 1997-2008, he worked in Primary Care Clinical Sciences at the University of Birmingham, before taking up his Chair in Cambridge in 2008.

His research focuses on cardiovascular disease in community settings, with particular interests in stroke prevention and long term care in community settings, atrial fibrillation, hypertension and heart failure. He was appointed an NIHR Senior Investigator in 2015.
