Professor Dame Nicky Cullum
Professor Dame Nicky Cullum represents the NIHR Applied Research Collaborations (ARCs) on the NIHR Strategy and Engagement Board. She is Director of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Greater Manchester and an NIHR Senior Investigator (Emeritus).
Nicky originally trained as both a pharmacologist (University of Liverpool BSc 1984, PhD 1990) and a nurse. After her PhD, Nicky’s focus shifted from lab science to more applied health research, where her research addresses questions about the causes and treatments of common health problems and the delivery of care. She was a founding member of Cochrane and led Cochrane Wounds until 2023.
Nicky was appointed Professor of Nursing at the University of Manchester in 2011 where she currently leads research in the School of Health Sciences and leads on health inequalities as a major strategic priority across the university. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (2012) and was made a Dame in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to wound care and nursing research.
