Professor George Peat
Professor George Peat is Co-Chair of NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research Subcommittee B.
George is a Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at Sheffield Hallam University, Director of the Centre for Applied Health & Social Care Research (CARe), and visiting Professor at Keele University.
He qualified as a physiotherapist from Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh, before completing a Masters in Public Health at University of Edinburgh and gaining his PhD in chronic pain management as a practitioner-academic physiotherapist at Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust and University of Manchester in 1998.
He moved to a full-time academic post at Keele University in 1999, leading and contributing to multidisciplinary teams in the Arthritis Research UK/Versus Arthritis national centre of excellence in primary care. He was awarded a personal Chair in 2011.
His research interests include observational and interventional studies to inform the prevention and management of common musculoskeletal pain conditions, and supporting NMAHP careers in research. He served a general methodology panel member for NIHR PGfAR from 2018-2023.
