Dale Vimalachandran
Mr Dale Vimalachandran is the NIHR Clinical Research Network National Specialty Lead for Surgical Oncology.
Mr Vimalachandran is a Consultant Colorectal surgeon at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1997 and completed his surgical training in North West England. He obtained his MD from Liverpool University in 2006 after spending time in the laboratory looking at protein expression in pancreatic cancer. He was appointed as a consultant in 2010 and established a colorectal research group at Liverpool University in 2012. His main translational research interests are exploring the biology of advanced colorectal cancer and its response to radiotherapy and chemotherapy as well as understanding the interplay between primary and metastatic disease.
Mr Vimalachandran also has an interest in clinical trials and has successfully run a number of national and international multi-centre surgical studies. Along with Miss Susan Moug, he is the current Royal College of Surgeons/Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland sub-specialty lead for colorectal surgery, he also sits on the NCRI colorectal surgery sub-group committee. In 2015 he was appointed as the regional specialty lead for surgery in the North West Coast and over the subsequent four years successfully increased surgical trial recruitment in the region five-fold.
