Statement of intent

The National Institute for Health and Care Research and NHS Race and Health Observatory share an ambition to reduce race and ethnic inequalities in health and care; supporting the delivery of government and NHS commitments.

We are therefore setting out our statement of intent to work together to ensure that the research sector plays a vital role in achieving this ambition, initially by:

  • developing a robust evidence base to understand and address factors that have led to the under-representation of ethnic minorities in research
  • exploring ways to support researchers to take more inclusive approaches to research design and delivery

Through collaboration, sharing best practice and amplifying each other’s work, we hope to make a significant contribution towards reducing inequalities in health and care and improving health access, outcomes and experiences for all.

We will report back to the Department of Health and Social Care in 12 months, setting out the progress we have made.

Signed:
